It's being widely reported tonight that actress Sydney Sweeney is in final talks to star in a live action incarnation of Gundam. Sweetooth showrunner Jim Mickle is set to adapt the long running series to an upcoming film which was announced back in 2021 with no real news since. The film will be co-produced by Legendary in conjunction with Bandai Namco Filmworks. Mickle will be producing alongside his creative partner, Linda Moran via their brand, Nightside.

Gundam kicked off in 1979 and started the mecha subgenre with Mobile Suit Gundam. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the brand generates over $600 million annually and has a rabid fan base. While Gundam has seen numerous iterations in animated series, animated films and video games, this will be the first ever live action movie.

Sweeney is still rumored to star in an upcoming remake of the Jane Fonda sci-fi classic, Barbarella. She's also starring in the Apple project, Echo Valley and of course the long awaited third season of HBO's Euphoria

There is no news on a release date at this time. We'll update as we hear more. Deadline reported the news tonight.
